Do you have many out of town patients?

About 30% of our patients drive 1 to 3 hours to take advantage of our experience and comprehensive program. With this in mind, we try to structure our system so that it is as convenient as possible for our out-of-towners, but does not compromise your care in any way.

When possible we try to accommodate our out-of-town patients to reduce the number of visits you need to make to our office. However, you must be serious about surgery and ready to proceed for us to consider this. Our Bariatric Symposium is available on DVD if you cannot make it into town for this event which is the required first step to getting started. It is possible to do the psychological evaluation, dietary consultation and initial consult with your surgeon all in the same day. The preliminary consult with our program coordinator may be done by phone. At a bare minimum, there will be at least three visits to Medford for appointments in preparation for surgery.

Gas is really expensive, how many times will I have to come to Medford after surgery?

It is important for Gastric Bypass patients to be seen at very regular intervals in the first year after surgery. This will total 5 visits in the first year. For the LAP-BAND® System patients it is important to realize that we want you to get the greatest benefit from your band. Therefore, you will need to come for adjustments until we get you to the “green zone”. We will need to see you at least every 6 months for the following year. With both procedures it will be in your best interest to visit our office annually thereafter. Because we have a fluoroscopy machine in our building, we can do our best reduce the number of trips you will have to make. We are sensitive to the fact that traveling by car is currently quite expensive with our new times of greater than $4/gallon fuel.

Where can I stay when I come to town?

Our office is conveniently located right on the Rogue Valley Medical Center Campus, less than 1 mile off of I-5. We have RV Parking with hook ups on site. Additionally, the Cheney House is a facility run by RVMC that offers a private room and bath at discounted rates when available. Ask our Surgery Scheduler for details or you may call 541-789-7000. Do you use fluoro for adjustments?

We have fluoroscopy access right on the first floor of our office building.

Can I rideshare with another patient?

We have lots of patients from all over the area. We will try to put you in touch with someone in your geographic area so you can rideshare, particularly to attend support groups. Also there is a section on our message board where you can post a message to find a ride.
